Ehemann is the formal word for husband (Ehe = marriage, Mann = man). In everyday speech, Germans often simply say 'mein Mann' (my man/my husband). Since 2017, same-sex marriage is legal in Germany, and 'Ehemann' is used for male spouses in same-sex marriages as well. The female equivalent is 'Ehefrau.'
