Handy
cell phone, mobile phone
Pronunciation
/ˈhɛndi/
Cultural Note
The most famous example of Denglisch (German-English pseudo-borrowing). 'Handy' sounds English but is NOT used this way in English — it's a German invention. Native English speakers find this endlessly amusing. The word is so established that even official German tries to replace it with 'Mobiltelefon' without success.
