Lebenspartner was the official legal term for same-sex civil partnerships (eingetragene Lebenspartnerschaft) in Germany from 2001 until full marriage equality in 2017. The feminine form is Lebenspartnerin. Today the term is used more broadly for any committed partner, regardless of legal status.
