Cultural Note

While Germans are sometimes stereotyped as unromantic, many German cities are among Europe's most romantic destinations — think Heidelberg, Dresden, and the Rhine Valley. 'Romantisch' also connects to the Romantic era (Romantik), a major cultural movement in German literature, music, and art. A 'romantisches Abendessen' (romantic dinner) with candles and wine is just as cherished in Germany as anywhere else.
