Cultural Note
Jurar is very emotionally charged in Spanish. 'Te lo juro' is one of the most emphatic ways to insist something is true. In wedding ceremonies, the traditional phrasing uses 'jurar' for vows. Swearing 'por mi madre' (on my mother) is considered the most serious informal oath in many Latin American countries.
