Cultural Note

The single most Spanish word in existence. Spaniards say 'vale' like Americans say 'okay' — constantly, reflexively, in every conversation. It comes from the verb 'valer' (to be worth/valid). Double it up — 'vale, vale' — when you want someone to stop explaining. In text messages, it's often just 'v' or 'vl.' Absolutely NOT used in Latin America, where it sounds hilariously peninsular. A Spaniard abroad can be identified by their involuntary 'vale' after every sentence.

📝 Example Sentences

¿Quedamos a las ocho? — Vale, perfecto.

Shall we meet at eight? — Sure, perfect.

Vale, vale, ya lo entiendo, no hace falta que repitas.

Okay, okay, I get it, you don't need to repeat yourself.
