Cultural Note
Derived from 'male ne aggia' (may evil befall), this is a classic Italian exclamation of frustration. Very common in southern Italy. 'Mannaggia la miseria' is a common extended form. Stronger than 'cavolo' but still generally acceptable in company. Can be followed by various objects of the curse.
