gaan
to go
Pronunciation
/ɣaːn/
Cultural Note
'Gaan' is one of the most irregular and frequently used Dutch verbs. It also forms the near future: 'Ik ga eten' (I'm going to eat). 'Hoe gaat het?' uses 'gaan' and is the standard Dutch greeting. Note that 'gaan' uses 'zijn' as its auxiliary — a movement verb.
