In Brazil, 'pedir a conta' (ask for the bill) is the standard phrase. The 10% service charge ('taxa de serviço' or 'gorjeta') on Brazilian bills is suggested but legally optional. In Portugal, the bill is 'a conta' as well, and you should check whether the couvert items you were offered have been added.
