Cultural Note

Ir is one of the most irregular verbs in Portuguese. Its preterite forms (fui, foste, foi...) are identical to those of 'ser.' 'Ir + infinitive' forms the near future: 'Vou comer' (I am going to eat). 'Vamos!' is the standard way to say 'Let's go!' and is used constantly in everyday speech.

📝 Example Sentences

Eles foram à praia ontem.

Vamos jantar fora!

Let's go out for dinner!
