Cultural Note
'Ou' can be exclusive (one or the other) or inclusive (either or both), just like English 'or.' The expression 'ou seja' means 'in other words' or 'that is to say' and is extremely common in both spoken and written Portuguese. 'Ou ... ou ...' creates an emphatic either/or: 'Ou você vem, ou eu vou' (Either you come, or I go).
