Pronunciation

/oˈviɾ/

Cultural Note

Unlike English, Portuguese uses the same verb 'ouvir' for both hearing and listening. The first person present 'ouço' is irregular. 'Ouvir dizer que...' means 'to hear that...' (hearsay). 'Escutar' exists but is less common in everyday speech.
